Former Sky Strategy Director, Chief Operating Officer and News UK CEO will work with MTM’s strategy practice, advising leading pay-TV, media and sports industry clients
MTM, an award-winning research and strategy consultancy, has announced the appointment of former Sky Strategy Director, COO and News UK CEO Mike Darcey as Senior Strategy Advisor. Mike will work with MTM to advise and support clients across the pay-TV, telecoms, media and sports industries, bringing over 25 years of senior experience to MTM’s team.
Mike is one of Europe’s leading pay-TV and media industry executives. During his 15 years at Sky, first as Director of Strategy and then COO, Mike led the strategic decision-making that saw Sky grow into one of Europe’s largest pay-TV providers, supporting the firm’s transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, the launch of major new product offerings such as Sky+, and the introduction of Sky AdSmart, the pioneering addressable advertising solution. He was also central to the development of Sky’s sports strategy, leading five successful defences of the Premier League rights, as well as securing key sports rights such as UEFA Champions League, Formula One and England home test cricket. At News UK, Mike was closely involved in the development of the company’s subscription offering and efforts to diversify and develop new revenue streams.
Since leaving News UK, Mike has continued to apply his expertise and experience across the industry, supporting Comcast during the firm’s successful acquisition of Sky, advising Arqiva in his role as a non-executive director, and advising pay-TV and technology companies around the world.
Mike joins MTM’s growing team at a time of tremendous change across the media industry, as new services continue to disrupt established consumer behaviours, traditional business models and competitive dynamics. The value of premium content is changing, as major rights holders and sports businesses re-evaluate their sales strategies and explore new routes to market. Working with Mike, MTM’s experienced team will be uniquely well-positioned to help leading industry participants navigate this rapidly evolving landscape.
